Kyle and I had a beautiful experience at this lovely lavender farm. The tour guide was sweet and very knowledgeable. She gave a great little mini history lesson. We also had the iced lavender tea... just perfect for this hot July day!

Like many great stories, this one began with a chance encounter in beautiful New York City. I was living there with my husband while he was doing a contract job for Major League Baseball in 2012. He had to work every day of his contract, which left little time for us to pursue meaningful relationships with other couples. However, one day he called me to let me know that he had met a really awesome guy that came by his office and that he was traveling with his girlfriend. He said they were free that night and suggested that we grab dinner after work.
I was immediately excited because this was the first time in months that my husband and I had plans to go out with another couple. We firmed up plans and met up at a little restaurant off of Houston Street. That is where we met Owen and Hailey for the first time.
Owen was from central Missouri but was currently living in Australia while working with the Perth Heat in the Australian Baseball League. That is where he met Hailey, a native of Busselton in Western Australia. At the point when we met them, they had not yet been dating one year but I had a pretty good feeling that their relationship had an upwards trajectory!
From the beginning, there was synergy with them and us. We were all around the same age, we were all driven, and we all had tremendous zeal for life. The evening was filled with lots of stories and laughter. As we wrapped up our outing, there was plenty of well wishes and I said something off-the-cuff like, “If you guys need someone to shoot your wedding for you down the road, be sure to let me know! I’d love to capture your big day in Australia!”
Well, they certainly remembered my offer…
Fast forward to the beginning of 2016 when Owen contacted me out of the blue. He said that he and Hailey were getting married and that they were going to do it at the end of the year in Busselton, Western Australia. He knew it was a long shot, but he remembered my offer to shoot their wedding. He did not think that it was going to be logistically possible, but he just wanted to reach out as a courtesy anyway.
Little did he know that my husband and I were actually planning a trip to Australia and New Zealand at the end of the year; right around the time when they were planning on getting married! The fortuitous nature of the timing was certainly a sign to us both, and we immediately started working our trip to accommodate their wedding date.
What began as a charming dinner in NYC several years ago culminated with an unbelievably elegant and gorgeous wedding on the beaches of Western Australia.
