What to Wear for your Professional Headshots // Oklahoma City Headshot Photographer

Before we dive into the specifics of picking out your outfit, there are a few things to consider. Creating the perfect photo is more involved than you might think at first, but we will guide you through a process to help you make the best wardrobe selection. This quick guide will get you started and when you inquire with us, we will send over our full portrait prep guide to make sure you look and feel your best!

What’s the vibe of your headshots?

Casual or business? Flirty or reserved? Serious or fun? Posing and expressions will play a big role in the vibe, but your wardrobe will, too. Just something to be thinking about as we plan the perfect shoot. The desired mood of the photos will heavily influence what you wear. Dressing in your brand colors is also a good idea. This will help reinforce your company's messaging.

Who is your target audience?

Is this headshot going on your new website? Dating profile? Email signature? Company website? Does it need to match an existing photo? We can certainly meet a variety of needs within one session, but consider who you will be looking at the photo and what you want them to think and feel when looking at the images.

Professional Headshot Attire

There are so many types of headshots that serve a massive variety of purposes. Sometimes, a personal brand session makes more sense than a headshot session… and it all depends on what the purpose and intention is. For the sake of this article, we will be talking about professional business headshots.

Blazers are an easy staple to wear in your business portraits. Pairing your blazer with a blouse is also an easy way to quickly change your look up. Just slide off the blazer and BAM! a whole new look! Blazers are classic and timeless but can add some personality depending on the color and texture.

Speaking of color. Should you wear it and if so, which one? I absolutely love neutrals and think they photograph beautifully. They never go out of style and can increase the longevity of your headshot. That being said, color is an excellent option as well. Color can be used to enforce your brand colors and show some more personality. If you are known for wearing bold fun colors, no need to change that now. No one color is better than another. This is personal preference and what color looks best on you!

Accessories are a great way to polish off a look. For professional business portraits, I suggest keeping accessories relatively simple so the focus stays on your face.
